Quick Guide to the Automated Elections - 2010 Presidential Elections

Manual voting has been used in the Philippine Electoral System for centuries. And now, for the first time in Philippine history, the government opted to introduce a better technology to be used in the coming 2010 presidential elections. This is, according to the officials, to make the ballots counting faster and to lessen cheating. Well, we're hoping.

Anyways, Smartmatic-TIM gives Yahoo! Southeast Asia a demo of the Automation process for the 2010 presidential elections. Watch the video below.

Loren Legarda for Vice-President 2010

Loren Legarda - Loren Legarda for Vice-President 2010

It's confirmed. Sen. Loren Legarda will run for Vice-President in the 2010 Presidential elections. Her running-mate is not yet confirmed, but recent reports revealed a possible Escudero-Legarda tandem. Sen. Legarda is running under a "pro-poor, pro-environment" platform.
"We all need a strong economy but it should be felt by every sector and every Filipino. No Filipino should die for lack of money for hospitalization or lack of medicine. No Filipino should die of hunger because they have no food. We should take care of the farmers and the fishermen. We should help feed the people who are feeding us," she said.
Sen. Legarda further told reporters that she will remain in the opposition even though she's running for Vice-President.

Presidential Candidates 2010 Update

national defensePresidential candidates 2010 update:

Since incumbent Vice-President Noli De Castro haven't decided until the set date whether to run for presidency or not, the administration's party had opted to choose between MMDA Chair Bayani Fernando and National Defense Sec. Gilberto Teodoro, Jr.. On Wednesday, after the conducted secret balloting among the members of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD Party, Sec. Teodoro won and eventually became the party's standard bearer. His possible running mate would be DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno.

Personally, I won't be giving my vote to Sec. Teodoro because:
  1. He doesn't have a say about the country's foreign debt;
  2. He said he will continue the programs of the present administration which I think had not done any good to alleviate the economic status of the poor;
  3. He is pushing for an untimely charter change; and most of all
  4. He's a pro-war politician when he said he supports "War on Terrorism". (Who are these terrorists, anyway?)

Presidential Candidates 2010

president
Some presidential candidates for 2010 are still undecided whether to continue to run or not in the presidential race after Senator Ninoy Aquino officially declared that he will run for presidency in the 2010 elections. Gov. Ed Panlilio had decided to back-out, while former Pres. Joseph Estrada said he will continue to file his candidacy.

aquino-roxas
Aquino's running mate was yet to be decided. Sen. Mar Roxas who voluntarily sacrificed his dream to give way to Sen. Aquino said that he's not closing doors for a possibility to run as Aquino's Vice-President.

partido lakas
From the administration's side, the Partido Lakas was eyeing Vice-Pres. Noli de Castro to be the party's standard bearer but since De Castro until now is still undecided, the choice will be between National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro and MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando.

legarda-escudero
From the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), a possible Escudero-Legarda or Legarda-Escudero tandem is being put into consideration.

election 2010
But the decision as to whoever from among these presidential candidates for 2010 is worthy, whatever their campaign strategies may be, lies within the discretion of the voters. In today's present situation, driven by their desire to have a better future through total reforms, the people had become very much vigilant as to who among these men had the capacity to rule the country, lifting up the economic lives of the Filipino people. Because at the end of the day, whatever the results will be of the 2010 elections, it's the people that's mostly affected.

For me, my president would be the one who has the most clear stand about our country's foreign debt. The one who has a rigid strategy on what to do with the illegitimate debts that has been the cause of the miseries of "Juan dela Cruz".
