Team USA defeated Switzerland in a 3-1 victory. Bobby Ryan is the American forward who scored the first goal of the Olympic men's hockey tournament.
The period was even until 1:01, when Bobby Ryan stopped a clearing pass just inside the blueline and winged a wild shot towards the net. The shot was blocked but Ryan, who plays for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, picked up the deflection and blasted a shot over his NHL teammate Jonas Hiller’s right shoulder.
On Thursday, the Americans will play against Norway, Canadians against Switzerland and Russians against Slovakia. The playoffs are a week away, and the gold medal game is on February 28, the final day of the Games.
