Gypsy | Gypsies | Roma gypsies

The term Gypsy or Gypsies refer to members of a traditionally itinerant people who originated in northern India and now live chiefly in south and southwest Asia, Europe, and North America.

Initially the word Gypsy was used to refer to the Romani people, hence described as Roma Gypsies, who first appeared in England at about the beginning of the 16th century. Gypsy also describes those in English speaking countries who live a lifestyle similar to that of the Romani.

Hollywood pop star Madonna was reported to have been booed by Romanian audience during her concert last Wednesday, August 26 in Bucharest when she spoke out against the discrimination of Roma Gypsies in Eastern Europe, saying that no one should be discriminated against.

Too bad for Madonna. Maybe she didn't quite understand the history of the Roma Gypsies so she spoke that way. As for the reacting crowd, maybe what Madonna said was true. The truth hurts, isn't it?

Well, a little lesson there is: before you attempt to speak out about something, check out its background first.
