Skywatchers really had a good reason to stay overnight. Grab your blankets and don't miss to watch the best meteor shower in 2010, the Geminid meteor shower. And not only that, December's night sky spectacular will also feature the only total lunar eclipse of the year which will occur on December 20th.

The Geminid meteor shower is rich in fireballs and can be seen from almost any point on Earth. This meteor shower peaks this year on Dec. 13th and 14th, and is the most intense meteor shower of the year which will last for days, according to NASA.
"Of all the debris streams Earth passes through every year, the Geminids' is by far the most massive," says Cooke. "When we add up the amount of dust in the Geminid stream, it outweighs other streams by factors of 5 to 500."
So bundle up and stay warm!
