Yes, the talked Estrada-Binay tandem for 2010 presidential elections has been confirmed. Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada had made the disclosure Tuesday noon that former President Joseph Estrada and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay will run for president and vice president , respectively, in 2010. The formal announcement which was supposed to be this October 14 has been moved to October 21st at the Plaza Moriones in Tondo, Manila in deference to the victims of recent devastating typhoons in the country.
When asked why he has chosen Binay, Estrada said, “Mayor Binay has proven himself as mayor of Makati, a premier city of the Philippines."
According to Estrada, they are running for their respective positions to really give the poor people the chance to improve themselves, to upgrade the plight of the poor people who have been suffering for several decades now.
Among those included in the senatorial slate under the Estrada-Binay tandem or Estrada’s Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) are:
- Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile
- Senator Jinggoy Estrada
- Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago
- Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos
- Makati Representative Teodoro Locsin
- Jose “Joey” de Venecia III, son of former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.
- Grace Poe, daughter of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr.
- Brigadier General Danilo Lim, detained military officer
They are also trying to get actor Edu Manzano into the slate.
