nugatory | nugatory definition

Merriam-Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary defined nugatory as inconsequential; having no force; inoperative; or trifling. It's synonymous with the word vain.

According to one blogger, this is the topmost nugatory thing we say: LOL - we use it so much but are not literally laughing out loud each time we write it. Actually, sometimes we are just sarcastically smiling.
